Biography 

Ney Homero da Silva Rocha

Deviser and developer of the Thematic Tango Bar - Bardetango

Established the Bardetango Show, a group of musicians and dancers who perform successful tango shows.

Producer, in association with Servimerco, and with support of the Argentine Club, Rio de Janeiro, of the 2006 Tango Rio Championship, (May 25-27, 2006). Winners received air tickets plus accomodation to participate in the IV World Tango Championship in Buenos Aires in August 2006.

With his partner Cristina, had a good performance as the only Brazilian delegate at the First World Tango Championship in Buenos Aires (Marcha 4-9, 2003.

Nineteen years experience as ballroom and tango dancer, member of the tango community of Rio de Janeiro, since its re-launching in 1990. Ney Rocha attended courses by Jaime Arôxa, Eric Mueller and Jeusa Vasconcellos, Junior and Silvia and also many Argentinean tango specialists, i.e. Mingo, Esther  e Pablo Pugliese, Carlos and Alicia, Gustavo Naveira and Olga, and also Giselle, Facundo and Kelly, Mimi and Francisco Santapá, Rodolfo and Maria Cieri, Celia Blanco, Graciela González, Norberto Esbrez, Estanislao Herrera and Verónica Vidan, Alejandro Sanguineti and Karin Solana, Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Hermocida, Esteban Moreno e Claudia Codega, Aurora Lubiz and Jorge Firpo, Alejandra Arrué and Sergio Natario, Roberto Herrera and many others.

Tango teacher at the Gaia Academy in Barra da Tijuca (Rio) since 1996 to 1999. Currently involved in tango classes in his Thematic Tango Bar for individual students and groups. Classes are available in Portuguese, English and Spanish, in addition to workshops and cultural talks on tango and ballroom dancing.

Conducted samba and bolero classes on board the Norwegian Dream, on Miami-Rome in April 2001. Aming his students there were Americans, Canaldians, Mexicans and Brazilians too.

Stage presentations in Rio de Janeiro as well as in other cities and villages Brazil, and also in Buenos Aires, in theatre halls, cultural institutions, clubs, shopping centers, restaurants, private and street parties.

Event promoter in the areas of ballroom and tango dancing, and lecturer on tango issues.

Author of the book: "Tango Uma Paixão Porteña no Brasil" (Tango, A Porteña Passion in Brazil).

In association with composer Ubirajara Silva, author of the lyrics  of the Brazilan tango (Milonga of Star Tuca): "Milonga da Estrela Tuca".

Author of: "History of the Development of the Tango Community in Rio de Janeiro".

Contributor of tango stories for two Brazilian especialized newspapers addressing dance and dancers: Dança e Saúde and Dance News and Tango News: www.dancenews.com.br under the section: "Los Milongueiros".

Civil Engineer specialized in Sanitation Engineering, worked was Assistant to the Operations Directorship at CEDAE, the Rio de Janeiro Water Supply Company. He worked for this State-owned company since 1967 until 2002 (i.e. 35 years). He was appointed following a public examination.  

Author of several technical reports for local and international Congresses on Sanitation and Environmental Engineering. Mr. Rocha was awarded the ABES prize for submitting reports for more than six and more than ten national and international congresses.

He was also awarded a Recognition Statement by the Municipal Court of Rio de Janeiro, for his contribution to the development of Sanitation Engineering in the State of Rio de Janeiro and throughout Brazil, as well as for his artistic talents in the area of ballroom dancing.

Tango researcher, and also great enthusiast and admirer of the Brazilian rhythms chorinho and samba.

Compiled large quantities of documents and cultural information on tango and ballroom dancing, and is currently involved in the various aspects of these two activities, both as instructor, professional dancer and also as his favorite hobby.
